Ellen Murphy Dougan, a breast cancer survivor, has used her artwork as a process of healing. Ellen, a resident of Manchester, CT is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in painting and a concentration in ceramics. Upon graduation, she opened a ceramic studio creating hand thrown pottery and ceramic tile.
After her recovering from breast cancer, Ellen returned to working on canvas. Her one person shows include Naugatuck Community College, Norman Stevens Gallery in the Homer Babbidge Library of the University of Connecticut, the Canton Artist Guild as well as State of the Arts in Hartford, John Slade Eli House in New Haven and Old Lyme Art Association. Ellen is a former President of Connecticut Women Artists, Inc. and has taught adults at the Litchfield County Art Association and for the continuing education program in Manchester and has also taught art at St. James School in Manchester.
As a breast cancer survivor, Ellen is excited that her artwork will be on display for the month of May at Darien Rowayton Bank in Darien. Stamford Hospital’s Mobile Wellness Bus will be at Darien Rowayton Bank on Saturday, May 12th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon to perform digital mammograms. Insurance accepted however no-cost mammograms are available to uninsured and low income women. “It is critical that women get tested and I am excited that the Bank is offering this service” says Ellen. Darien Rowayton Bank will also be hosting an Artist’s Reception for Ellen on Thursday,
May 17th at the Bank from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Stop in for some wine and cheese and see Ellen’s wonderful artwork.
